The GFWC Woman’s Club of West Deptford celebrated its 25 year anniversary on December 11, 2018, with a special dinner honoring the members who have volunteered their time and the club’s long history of dedication to the community since 1993.
The club welcomed special guests Mary Wolfe, NJSFWC State President, and Patricia Dahl, Garden District Vice President.The club also honored the nine charter members, who have been with the club continuously over its 25-year history.
The club highlights will be featured in pictures and memorabilia displayed at the West Deptford Library from January 2019 until March 2019. Some of the club’s major projects include: West Deptford High School Scholarships, Girls’ Career Institute for high school girls, Family Promise of Gloucester County for homeless families, Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children of New Jersey, and Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention. The club raises funds for these and other charities through a Designer Bag Bingo each October.
The GFWC Woman’s Club of West Deptford is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) of GFWC, which was founded in 1894 and is now celebrating 125 years of volunteer community service. Since 1966, the State Federation has been headquartered on the Douglass Residential Campus, formerly Douglass College in New Brunswick, and is a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), the oldest and largest nonpartisan, nondenominational women’s volunteer service organization in the world. Opportunities are provided to women in education, leadership training and community service through participation in local clubs, enabling members to make a difference in the lives of others.
