Monarch Butterfly Event

We hope that you had a wonderful summer! Our Environment Committee has met to discuss options for activities during the upcoming year. We will continue to collect #5 plastic prescription bottles and all plastic caps for recycling at ECOP in Delaware. Please feel free to bring your plastics to our meetings or drop them off at Patty’s house.

Special Event

We are also planning a fun “Pop-up Monarch Butterfly Event” to be held at 1pm on September 11th in Patty’s back yard. Patty and Denise P. have been “raising” Monarch butterflies for release during the past several years. Patty and Denise will share information about their butterfly rearing experience.

At the event our committee will present information about the Monarchs—their reproduction, feeding, threats, the impressive fall migration to Mexico….and more! We hope to show the various life cycle stages of the Monarch from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis and finally the beautiful butterfly. If we are lucky, some Monarchs will be ready for release that day!

You can view Patty’s garden, which is planned to benefit not only butterflies, but also all pollinators, birds and wildlife. Light refreshments will be served. This will be an outdoor event and the yard is partially shaded. Please dress accordingly. Seating will be provided. This will be a members only event and we ask that you let us know if you will be attending so we can plan for refreshments and seating. Denise Pitchford sent you a “save the date” e-mail for the Pop-up on 8/28/26. You can respond to her e-mail if you will be coming.
We hope that you can join us for the “Pop-up Monarch Butterfly Event!”
