February President’s Message

“Love is the feeling we have for those we care deeply about and hold in high regard. It can be light as the hug we give a friend or heavy as the sacrifices we make for our children.” —Cheryl Strayed

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Love is in the air this month. February reminds me that we are halfway through the winter, and we can soon look forward to a bright, warm spring. So much is happening in our club. Advocates for Children, led by Karen Hink, just completed the National Day of Service, dropping off over $1000 worth of new baby goods. The Social Team, led by Jody Harris, has many fabulous events planned for you (see the Social Section of this newsletter), and the Community Impact Program Team, led by Carol Dechen and Sandy Mastrangelo, is hard at work planning for their pilot program, Helping Hands~Happy Hearts. What a great name! These are just the highlights.

Leadership Workshop

Jody, Ann C., and I recently attended a leadership workshop at the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) headquarters. We
received many helpful tips for strengthening the bonds of our membership. We also realized that many of what was discussed, we already do. Things such as member orientation and newsletters. We have a website, member applications, a sunshine coordinator, and new member orientation. There are still tweaks we can do that will help to keep our club moving forward and thriving in the future. The membership committee is putting some of this in place.

The Winds of Change

While we may like things to stay the same, change is constant, and how we adapt is important. Some changes are predictable, and some are not. It is in this spirit that I announce a change to our board. Linda Clark, Recording Secretary, is stepping back due to some
fabulous changes in her future. We will miss her. As President, it is my duty to find and appoint someone to take Linda’s role. Lisa Hunter, who has been on board for a while and has occasionally filled in as Recording Secretary, has agreed to take on this new role. Thank you, Lisa. In looking for someone to fill Lisa’s role, I chose a woman with stellar organizational skills. I am pleased to announce that Patty Wyzykowski has accepted the role of Corresponding Secretary. Thank you, Patty.

As per the Bylaws, I needed Board Approval for these changes. On Sunday, February 2nd, at 8:00 a.m., an ad hoc Zoom meeting was held with the current Board to obtain approval. The Board passed it unanimously. The official record of amendments is noted and part of the official record. The remainder of the Board stays the same.

    Recording Secretary
  • Patricia Wyzykowski,
    Corresponding Secretary.

Meeting locations

As a reminder, the February General Meeting will be held at RiverWinds in meeting room C. Our guest speaker for February is Brian Gismondi, West Deptford School Superintendent. He will be presenting plans for improving the physical space of our schools. I sent a link to the proposed referendum. I encourage you to go through the information and have your questions ready for
Brian.

For our March meeting, we will need to temporarily move back to St. Paul’s Methodist Church as all the meeting space in RiverWinds will be occupied due to the School Referendum vote that night. Thank you, Dee Hosier, for helping us out again.

In April and May, we will be back at RiverWinds.

February is Healthy Heart Month, so wear red to the meeting.

Let’s Go Birds !

In Federation Friendship,

Janice
