Environment Report
We hope you had a wonderful summer! As you know, during the past two years our Environment committee project focused on the recycling of plastic beauty product containers. That particular recycling program was discontinued by the Nordstrom stores.
We have discovered a company called Eco Plastic Products of Delaware (ECOP), which is based in Wilmington, DE. ECOP accepts #2, #4 and #5 plastic containers for recycling. They use the recycled plastic to create garden benches, raised garden beds, picnic tables and many other products. The company can accept 50 lbs of plastics per group each month.
We would like to continue recycling plastics as a club project. Initially we will concentrate on collecting a couple types of plastic. The first is prescription medicine containers. Most prescription medicine containers are #5 and they are not recyclable through our Township.
The second type of plastic is bottle/container lids. ECOP accepts all plastic container lids (water bottles, juice bottles, cleaning products bottles etc.) The bottle lids are also not recyclable in our town.
PLEASE NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REMOVE THE LABEL FROM THE PRESCRIPTION BOTTLES AND ALL CONTAINERS AND LIDS HAVE TO BE CLEAN. Soaking the medicine bottles in hot water may make it easier to remove the labels. You can bring your medicine containers and lids to our meetings each month.
The recycling number can be found on the bottom of plastic containers. A sample of how the numbers appear is shown to the left.
Prescription medicine containers are pictured below.
Check the bottom to make sure that the recycle number is #4 or #5.
Although we are continuing to focus on the recycling of plastics as our club project, we will welcome any suggestions about environmental activities that you feel would be enjoyable and beneficial for our members to pursue.
Thank you for all that you do to help green our world!
