Our last Zoom Book Club Meeting for this club year took place on Wednesday, June 2. We discussed The Winemaker’s Wife by Kristin Harmel. This book is in the Historical Fiction/War genre. Below is a brief summary for your reading pleasure.
Champagne, 1910: At the dawn of the Second World War, Ines is the young wife of Michel, owner of the Maison Chauveau, a champagne house near Reims, France. It should be an idyllic life, but Ines – who’s often treated like a child by her husband, his head winemaker Theo, and Celine Theo’s wife, is unhappy. And then the Germans arrive.
New York, 2019: Recently divorced Liv Kent is at rock bottom when her French grandmother shows up unannounced, insisting they leave on a flight to Paris. But the older woman has an ulterior motive… and a decades-old story to share. When past and present intertwine, Liv may finally find a way forward along a difficult road that leads straight to the caves of the Maison Chauveau.
It was an interesting discussion and a fun hour on zoom.
This book literally had one point up on the runner-up. With this being said, I’d like to select our fall book for our October Book Club Meeting, date TBD; however, I’m thinking early October, since I’m giving you the title now: The Pledge of Silence by Flora Solomon. This is also in the Historical Fiction/War genre.
