March President’s Message

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all members of the Woman’s Club of West Deptford. It has been one year this month that we had our last meeting at the West Deptford Free Public Library before our world was turned upside down. Covid-19 certainly had an impact on each and every one of us. I know it has affected each of us and our families differently; however the results are the same. (I miss hugging the most as I am an avid hugger ?). Let’s keep our fingers crossed that as the warm weather moves in, we all see some things go back to normal. I hope all of you have had an opportunity to get an appointment for the vaccine, if that is your choice. If you have not and do want the shots, please reach out to me. I have a phone number that has been very helpful to many residents.

“A strong woman knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows it is in the journey where she will become strong.”

This month’s quote is dedicated to each of you who has made a difference this past year. Whether it was in your family, small circle, the community, or beyond, we know that it is the woman in that circle that makes everything ok. As March is National Women’s History Month, I want to take this opportunity to recognize each of you for being the strength behind all that gets accomplished. As everything we do is documented in our newsletters, files and recognitions, each of you will be remembered in the years to come. Yes, your names will be associated with so much of what we have done this past year. We are making history, ladies!!!!

This is pretty exciting when you realize that this is also the 150th Anniversary of West Deptford Township’s history. The incorporation date is March 7th, 1871…seems fitting with all that we have been a part of this past year. The West Deptford Historical Association, who we have given donations to in the past, has a pictorial history on display at the library if you want to travel down memory lane ?. Check it out if you have the time. It is pretty incredible!

I want to thank all of you for your support, fantastic questions and suggestions as well as your positive vote last month at our February meeting for the Scholarship Committee. We will be able to give two $1,000 scholarships this year, and I know that Karen D. and her committee will do a fantastic job as always.

This month at our March meeting, we will be discussing our tentative donations list for 2021. Your Executive Board worked hard going over the donations list and came up with a tentative list for all of you to review. I will send out last year’s donation list along with this year’s tentative list before our March 9th meeting so you know what we have put together. We will share where the monies will come from and what our reasoning was. We will give everyone the opportunity to share their opinions and suggestions at our March meeting in the same format as we did for scholarships before any formal vote.

Please check out Isabella’s article in this month’s Tidbits to keep up to date on Federation happenings. One important update will be this year’s NJSFWC Con-vention, which will be held by Zoom on Monday April 26th and Tuesday April 27th. If you are interested in attending, please let me know.

Shoutout time!!!! A big thank you to everyone who purchased the items needed for the Operation Smile Bags and to all the sewers who spent hours making the Smile Bags. These bags are going to make some children “smile.” Also, thanks to all of our ladies who counted coats (or not) and donated money to Operation Chillout to help add to our treasury. Another big recognition goes to Carol M. who volunteered to take over the Civic Engagement and Outreach Committee. Carol will be writing articles for Tidbits each month and running Operation Yellow Ribbon, Christmas Stockings for our Military. And of course to all of you who continue to make a difference every day and making life a little better for others.

Finally…just an update on the WD Library meeting room. The Board of Trustees are looking tentatively to opening the meeting room this summer; however that is not final yet. We will continue to hold Zoom meetings for March and April and hold outdoor meetings in May and June at St. Paul’s Church as we have done in the past. Our Zoom meetings will start at 7:00 p.m. but our outdoor meetings will be starting earlier to get everything in before dark.

Have a wonderful week, stay safe, and enjoy the coming of Spring!

Warmly,

April   Â
