Health & Wellness Community Service Program is designed to inform members of issues that affect the well-being of individuals, families and communities. Volunteer efforts provide opportunities and resources to meet and address needs.
Through this program, our club develops and implements creative projects that:
- Promote a healthy lifestyle
- Increase awareness, prevention, research, and treatment of disease
- Target personal development
- Address the issues of hunger, inadequate housing, and homelessness
- Prevent or correct financial difficulties
Here are a few of our Health & Wellness Projects:
- Operation Smile: This national affiliate of our parent organization, the General Federation of Women's Clubs, provides surgery worldwide to children with cleft palates and similar congenital issues. We help by sewing "Smile Bags" to be filled with items for the children that receive care.
- Making Strides against Breast Cancer: Each year we have members raise funds and participate in a walk to promote breast cancer research. Several members are breast cancer survivors and they encourage all members to donate in support of this project.
- Let's Get Moving: This two-year program sponsored by our State Federation has encouraged our members to be active. We started a walking group to help us keep fit, and members reported their activities each month.
- Ronald McDonald House: For years we have been collecting aluminum can tabs and delivering them to the local Ronald McDonald House in Camden. These tabs are recycled into fund to be used for the care and housing of families dealing with childhood cancers.
- Purse Project: Each year we fill purses with toiletries and necessities for two organizations in Camden. These organizations' clients are homeless women and woman with addictions, as well as recovering addicts.
