The Benefits of Crafting

Adults need a craft hobby for many reasons. It can be fun and interesting because hobbies act as soothing therapy for your soul, switching your mind to other things, and involving brain areas to things other than your home or office work. See the chart below.

What are you doing this spring and summer? Hobbies, crafts, painting, sewing, or photography are all good ways to channel those creative urges to find beauty in the world around us. As we are vaccinated and coming out of the Covid-19 hibernation, think about the scientific evidence that proves ART enhances brain function. It has an impact on brain wave patterns and emotions, the nervous system, and can actually raise serotonin levels. Art can change a person’s outlook and the way they experience the world.

Above is a picture of our member, Debbie H., as she has recently been very busy sewing pillow cases for her grandson’s baseball team. To boost the spirits of the young men on the team, Debbie will sew a pillow case for each team member. The pillow cases will have a baseball pattern on the material and become a keepsake for the high school team members. Debbie has also finished pillowcases that were sent to Ronald McDonald House and donating to other organizations.

Thank you, Debbie for encouraging our members to use their sewing skills for charity.
