Boatsie’s Boxes Project

Led by our new Public Issues chair, Robin Evans, we supported a very worthwhile project called “Boatsie’s Boxes.”

Boatsie’s Boxes is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. They are dedicated to supporting our troops when they are far away from home and their families during the holidays. Sending our troops Christmas stockings filled with items from their wishlist and a personal handwritten note wishing them some holiday cheer means a lot to them.

Robin’s goal was to collect 20-25 stockings. The stockings are the traditional red fuzzy stocking with the white fuzzy tops, 13-19” long.

Members brought items to our meetings and several attended a “stocking stuffing” party at the West Deptford Library. The club voted to pick up the cost of shipping the stockings to Boatsie in West Virginia. We’re awaiting the final count of stockings sent.

Items collected included: Beef Jerky, chocolates, Slim Jims, Christmas candy, playing cards, nuts, individually wrapped candy, cookies, dried fruit, trail mix, Life Savers, chewing gum, wet wipes, crew socks, travel dental kits, healthy snacks, small shaving cream, razors, lip balm, iTunes cards, DVDs, batteries and CDs.

The NJSFWC (New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs) have supported Boatsie’s Boxes since 2011.

Thank you, Robin, for leading us in this great project.
