There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor. ~Charles Dickens
It is Monday morning, and about 9 inches of snow cover our lawn. Our driveway and walkways are not yet plowed, though the feeling in the house is one of peaceful bliss. Am I laughing? Not really. Am I in good humor? Absolutely. Who doesn’t love a snow day? It’s a day to eat warm, nourishing food, read an enjoyable book, and nap. I intend to do just that after I finish this message. That said, the aftermath of the snow is never fun to deal with.
Club Activity Reports
I am happy to report that all 15 Committee Reports are out the door, date-stamped at the post office, and on their way to the various District Chairs. Thank you all for “a job well done.” As NJSFWC First Vice President Chris Sienkielewski mentions in the January ALMANAC, sharing the volunteer activities – not just the statistics – tells the club’s story as well as the story of the GFWC and the NJSFWC, while demonstrating the impact our members have on our communities and the world.
District Council Meeting
Nine members attended the January District Council meeting at the GFWC Porch Club of Riverton, where clubs shared recent projects and programs. The next meeting will be the Annual Spring Conference in April. Details on craft and photography submissions will be provided by Ann Caswell, and environmental updates will come from Patty Wyzyzkowski.
Spelling Bee
I had the opportunity to attend the 4th-grade Spelling Bee last week at Green-Fields school. Each 4th-grade teacher held their bees within the classrooms, and finalists from that effort were at the Bee I attended. It featured about 30 students, with the top 10 now advancing to the West Deptford District Bee, including students from both 4th and 5th grade. For more information on the West Deptford District Bee and the Tri-County Bee, contact Education Chair Susan Degnan.
GFWC Learning Academy
The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs has introduced an online video-based training series for members, covering technology, finance, leadership, membership, and other resources. Participation is encouraged. https://memberportal.gfwc.org/pages/learning-academy
Reminders
The February meeting will be held at the West Deptford Middle School Library on February 10th at 6:30 PM. This will be our ongoing location.
Members are encouraged to visit the club website for important dates and the NJSFWC website for district and state information. www.wdwomen.org and www.njsfwc.org
Let’s hope for some thawing soon. Meanwhile, stay warm and safe.
Fondly,
Janice
